I'm Back...and I'm a Mommy!

Sorry for the long hiatus....just needed to take a break and go have some babies. That's right: my long-awaited miracles are here! They arrived May 19 at 33 weeks 6 days. My predictions were right, it WAS my blood pressure that put things in motion. I went in for my scheduled weekly OB appointment that morning and was sent straight over to the hospital. (So no frantic middle of the night ER trip after all!) When I went in that morning, my BP was high and climbing higher, I had protein in my urine, and I was swollen beyond recognition; the doctors were worried about pre-eclampsia and decided to go ahead and deliver. By 6 PM, my girls were here!

Swollen and terrified (but smiling!) before the C-section:

I only got to see Hadley (the biggest) before she was whisked away to the NICU; the other two were taken straight down and I actually didn't get to see them for 24 agonizingly long hours because of the horrendous magnesium sulfate I was on. They were so, so worth the wait, though! By the time I saw them and held them that next day, all three were on room air and doing great. Their birth weights were as follows:

Reagan - 4 lbs 7 oz
Hadley - 5 lbs 3 oz
Madeline - 4 lbs 9 oz

The girls did great and were only in the hospital for about two weeks. They were able to transition down from intensive care to the special care nursery, and were even transferred to a hospital closer to home after the first week. None of them had any major problems; they all just needed to "feed and grow." Coming home empty-handed was heart-breaking to say the least, but it's over now and everyone's here together. Hadley came home on Memorial Day, May 31, and Reagan and Madeline were able to come together on June 3.

Things are out of control crazy at our house right now, and I don't know just how much updating I'll get to do, but it just didn't seem right not to tell how the story of my pregnancy ends...and how the story of our little/big family begins...
